Resources for Research

PK Library Catalog

The library catalog is available online. If you cannot find what you need in the Pennekamp's library, Ms. Barbara may be able to borrow a book from another library in our school district. Need help? Just ask!

Britannica School

Through the generosity of the California State Library, all California K-12 schools have access to the online student version of Encyclopedia Britannica. Ask Ms. Barbara or your child's teacher for the username and password.

County of Los Angeles Public Library

Browse the public library's catalog. Log in with library card number and PIN to use the online databases. Particularly recommended for 4th- and 5th-grade students are the Social Studies Fact Cards.

ProQuest

ProQuest is a source that compiles and makes available a vast array of high-quality online databases. Username and password are available from your child's teacher or Ms. Barbara.

Most of ProQuest's resources are intended for older students and may cover controversial topics. The ProQuest resources that are best suited to elementary students are the following: Culturegrams (recommended for grades 3-12), which covers countries and cultures around the world; and SIRS Discoverer (recommended for grades 1-9), an online search tool for general research.

TeachingBooks.net

Discussion guides, author interviews, book trailers, and many other resources searchable by book title or author.

World Book Online

A reliable, modern online database for research and general interest, funded by the Pennekamp PTA. The username and password are available from Ms. Barbara in the library or your child's classroom teacher.
