As everyone probably knows by now, all library materials must be returned. A hold will be placed on the report card of any student with unresolved library issues. This includes books not returned by the student's parent. We almost have everything back, so thank you for your cooperation, and let's get those last few books back!
The Wednesday kindergarten classes will visit the library this week as usual. I will also be finishing a novel with Mr. Warner's 5th-grade class and with Mrs. Horowitz's 3rd-grade class.
Through the generosity of the MBEF, the district's library media specialists (including me!) will take turns this summer staffing the Pacific Elementary library so that MBUSD students and families have a local public library for browsing and reading. Any MBUSD student can use the Pacific library this summer when it is open, which will be from June 24 to August 2, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. (closed on July 4).
The current summer reading lists are now posted on the MBUSD website. Please enjoy them! Students entering 6th grade or above have required reading; students entering kindergarten through 5th grade are not required to read books from the summer lists--these lists are just to provide ideas for students and families looking for summer reading material.
The Manhattan Beach public library is now closed for renovation, but summer reading events will still be taking place. Don't miss the great programs and storytimes that will be offered!
Thanks to the Pennekamp community for another great year. I am grateful to the Pennekamp PTA, the MBEF, and Pennekamp's teachers, families, and students for making my job so fun and rewarding. There are a great many books I'm looking forward to reading this summer--I can't wait to tell you about them when school resumes, and to hear about what you have been reading. Have a great summer!
