Grade 4 is continuing with Some Kind of Courage, by Dan Gemeinhart. Grade 5 is hearing a biography of William Shakespeare because grades 4 and 5 will be seeing a Shakespeare assembly on February 13. In this exciting program members of the Theatricum Botanicum will present three scenes from A Midsummer Night's Dream as well as information between the scenes on drama, acting, Elizabethan times, and Shakespeare's life. I'm really looking forward to it!
In other exciting news, the winners of the American Library Association (ALA) Youth Media Awards were announced today! There are a great many awards, but the ones with which most people are familiar are the Newbery Medal, which went to The Girl Who Drank the Moon, by Kelly Barnhill, and the Caldecott Medal, which went to Radiant Child: The Story of Young Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, illustrated as well as written by Javaka Steptoe. For a full list of the award winners and honorees, go to the ALA's press release.
