The book club for 5th grade meets next Monday, February 27, in the library at lunch recess. We will be discussing Secrets of Shakespeare's Grave, by Deron R. Hicks. In the event of rain, the meeting will be postponed.
I'm finally going to announce the date for voting on the CYRM "Intermediate" nominees! Any student in grade 4 or 5 who has read all three nominees AND has completed a short "quiz" on each book is invited to vote for his or her favorite at a lunchtime pizza event on Monday, March 27! The books are Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library, by Chris Grabenstein; The Real Boy, by Anne Ursu; and Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin, by Liesl Shurtliff. Thanks to generous funding from Pennekamp PTA, the library typically has copies on hand for any student who would like to participate.
This Wednesday, February 22, there's a computer coding event for kids at our local Manhattan Beach public library. Also coming up is the public library's Hang 10 book club on March 11--the book to be discussed is Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library, by Chris Grabenstein. (As I just said above, that's one of the books nominated for CYRM this year, so the PK library has lots of copies.)
